designer is an adjective because it describes jeans.
The last word of a prepositional phrase is always a noun or pronoun. So, "in the designer jeans" and "in the play" are prepositional phrases. Jeans and Play are nouns.

Also, "a, an, & the" always tell you that a noun is coming. It is often the next word.

The girl. the designer jeans. the lead, in the play.

There are four nouns in this sentence.
