got out and is walking down the side of the road.

Do you return the favour and stop to see if it has a collar to call the owner??

Story - My bf's dog went missing. So him and his mum went looking for it. Someone called up because they'd found her. When his mum got home from picking up the dog she told us that there was another dog on the side of the road and she was hoping it wouldn't run out infront of her car. I said to my bf, wouldn't you return the favour, someone's obviously going through what you went through - you'd think you would at least stop.

On the way back to my house this morning, there was a dead dog on the side of the road she was talking about.

I'm not saying it is her fault, but it could have been prevented.

Would you have stopped?

I definitely would have returned the favor. I have 4 dogs, and they're a part of the family to me. I would be glad to return someone's precious pet to them, since I know that I'd be miserable without my dogs.

I always stop. The trouble is that some won't come near people and I've encountered strays that are close to wild and I'm afaid they'll bite. Still, we always try. One day a dog was running in and out of traffic seemingly looking for someone. It wouldn't come near us and was going to be hit. We ran into a store, bought dog food and lured it. Eventually we got close enough but it was big and very nervous. It took us about 2 hours to get a rope on the dog so he wouldn't head back onto the street and wait for the guys from the animal shelter to show up. By that time the dog had relaxed. The dog's owners never came, apparently, but he was rehomed.

Another time a car hit a poor dog and the driver just took off (jerk) and we quickly tossed the dog into our truck and rushed him to the vet. Our car was "nasty" inside and so were our clothes but he survived and was rehomed by the local shelter.

I think we all need to do our part and if it was my dogs I'd kiss the feet of someone who "did the right thing".

I agree, the death of that dog was preventable. She could have tried and if he wouldn't "be helped"..ie. ran away, growled, etc, at least she could have said she did her best. I couldn't have just driven on and left him....but that's me...

I have always stopped for lost dogs..I've done it at least 5 or 6 times in the past couple of years. I even brought home a cute chocolate lab who has been playing in the swamps, afterwards I stunk to high heaven and had to go out wreaking of swamp dog. It was worth it, the owners were so happy to have her back home. I can only hope that if my dog ever gets loose, some animal lover will stop and bring him home to me.

We found a golden retreiver running around this weekend right in the middle of a busy intersection.

So I parked the car to the side and was able to catch him while dodging a few vehicles. Thankfully people were really good and moving at a crawl.

So yeah, despite what some dumb asses here think, I would stop and help.

Yes, especially if it appeared the dog was fairly ignorant about cars on the road.

I also would go look at the dead dog and see if it has tags or ID. I'm sure the owners would like to know, sad as it may be.

We do all the time :-) We have 3 dogs & I would be in a severe panic if any one of them went missing. I would hope that somebody would pick up my dog & call me.
Also, there are several dogs in our neighborhood that seem to constantly get out of their yards during the day when their owners aren't home. We know who they belong to, so we just take them back.
Seems to be our thing :-)

Honestly I would like to stop and take the dog, and put an effort into finding it's home. But in reality, If I was driving alone, I would. If I had my children no. I don't know if the dog is sick, and I would not want a strange dog in my car with my babies. Fair enough. In my mind anyhow. I LOVE animals. But I love my babies more.

As long as it didn't seem like a mean dog, sure. I have a lil phobia of big dogs, so he would have to smile at me first! lol Bad experience when I was little... But yea, I would hope they would do the same for me, yea.
