Not usually. The way I see it is that it is the answer that is chosen as best. The 10 points are incidental to that. If I had that mentality, it would seem that I personally was chosen rather than my answer, and that is a conceit that I prefer to not have with me.
I will gladly give a note of appreciation if in the comments the asker makes a special note of praise of some kind. That does deserve acknowledgement.
Very often I will leave a comment about someone else's best answer, usually if the answer is very good and deserving of being chosen. On occasion I will voice a disagreement, but only if the chosen answer is appalling bad and then it's only directed at the asker.
Where I prefer to bestow gratitude is when I am asking the questions. To me, taking the time to write an answer, especially a good one, deserves recognision.

No, I thank people for answering my questions. I've never had anyone thank me for choosing their answer as best. I'm not saying that I, or other people shouldn't. I just didn't realize that it was proper Answers etiquette to do so. It does makes sense though. They took the time to select your answer rather than just send it to the voting. It may encourage more people to select their own best answer! Thank you everyone.
