The Cold Heat (a brand) appears from the reviews to be good for small scale jewelry and electrical soldering. It appears to be better than older battery powered soldering irons. Whether it delivers enough heat (Btu's) to do bigger joints is not covered. As one review says, it is blunt enough that it doesn't get into narrow spaces.
A soldering gun is often awkward to handle. It delivers heat of medium quantity - too much for fine electrical work, not enough for most metal work soldering.
An iron can be matched to the job for really heavy work or really fine work. All of them are awkward to set down and need some kind of stand to keep from burning the work surface.
The Cold Heat is cheap enough at $20 to make getting one for electrical work worth trying.
