Is it because they think there are so many of them here that they can just simply change the language which the Declaration of Independence of this country is written in? Most of the other immigrants like nearly all of our great grandparents who spoke different languages that come to the United States of America to start a new, “better” life seem to want to make the effort to learn the English language so they may respectfully contribute toward the greater good. They do so out of respect for the freedoms that are inherited from the hard work of our four fathers laid out to build this great nation, its Constitution and laws which were all created with the English language. It just seems to me like a blatant disregard for common courtesy if you ask me. Learn to speak English if you are a US citizen! Speak Spanish all day long who cares! It’s not fair to the other immigrants, the rest of the English speaking citizens or the system that runs this nation that made you want to come here!!!!!

Because they know they don't have to! We cater to them, and don't require that they learn the language. Everything that you buy here, is written in both languages, phones are programmed, to accommodate them, etc etc. It's not like it was when our ancestors came over. We should demand that the official language of the US, be made English. Everyone write their congressman, fill their boxes with emails!

My grandfather came here from Switzerland. The other came from Germany. Both learned the English language within a year and they also became citizens. There are Spanish speakers who have been here for twenty years and still do not speak English and, moreover, they don't want to. They expect a translator where ever they go. I spent 28 days in Mexico City . I am not by any means fluent, but after that trip, I can speak Spanish well enough to be understood and can read it fairly well. Apparently these immigrants do not love this country as much as you or I or our grandparents. Shameful, I do believe.

They dont speek english because they dont have to. This is the same with many groupd of immigrants. They often settle in the same area and end up having communities consisting of immigrants and their families. They set up homes and businesses, and the only time they even encounter english is when kids go to school, or people go to work outside of the tight knit community that they have.
Eventually some immigrants do learn english. It takes time as they venture farther from their communities and as different people move into their communities.
