Hello,

Macbooks have built-in-wireless card. If you have a router or apple airport, you dont have to plug your computer with a modem on the wall.

Your macbook can pick up a signal up to 50 feet away from the router and you can go online wirelessly. You still need internet service from your ISP.

Some internet companies are offering modem with built in routers.

If it has the wireless lan card included then you can just turn on the wireless connection switch , which is usually located near the touchpad and go to a location with wireless connection. So, your laptop will detect the connection and you'll be ready to use internet.
Otherwise, if the laptop you have doesn't have the wireless lan card then you'll need to have a cable and connect it on the wall and on the laptop in order to have the access.
Same as macintosh.
Good luck!!

To access internet you need to connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Connection can be:
1. Slow and low tech- dial up through the telephone
2. Faster but you pay more- DSL or Cable. You connect through a modem that they provide.

Both can be connected either wirelessly or wired to a router that connects to the wall or to a modem.
