I am a Canadian. Is there any way I can get a visitor visa to Australia for free? I found many sites online that would do the visa (ETA) for a fee, but if I remember correctly the visa used to be free.

Thanks

Any travel agent can arrange for a visa to Australia, at least that is what I did the last time I went. It was all done on-line by them. I would not use any on-line services since they make money by doing this so, it stands to reason, they levy a surcharge on top of the actual cost.

An ETA (Visitor) Subclass 976 visa which is good for 3 months has a $20 service charge although the visa itself is "free". This is an electronic visa and is good for visits up to 3 months, multiple entry for a maximum of 12 months from date of issue or until the expiry of the passport, whiever is sooner.

A tourist visa (subclass 676) is $75 and is good for single or multiple entries up to 12 months.

Visa are only available from the Australian Embassy in Ottawa (for Canadians) but travel agents can arrange for the ETA from their office. The Tourist visa is done by the old method of filling out forms.

Always get your visas from the countries' embassy this is always the cheapest and safest way to both apply and obtain one.

NEVER use the services offered by agencies you find on the internet, they often over-charge you and you are never sure if what you are going to get is legit.

For a visitor visa to Australia visit the website for the Australian Embassy in Canada. I have provided the link for you below.

It includes all of the application forms, fees and procedures.

The Tourist Visa (Subclass 676) is for temporary travel to Australia for tourism purposes or to visit family and friends.

If you can afford the airfare to Australia and the accommodation when you are here, you can afford the few dollars for a visa.

If it's just a holiday 3 month visa your travel agent should be able to print one off for you,or if you are buying your ticket off the Internet you can print one off for free.
