[Dr. Paulozzi] Well, our study showed that the number of drug poisoning deaths or drug
overdoses rose from a little over 11,000 in 1999 to almost 20,000 in 2004, and that was
a 68% increase in the rate. The largest increase was in the category called
psychotherapeutic drugs where the rates went up 84%. However, the category that
contained the most deaths, almost 10,000 of these deaths in 2004, was the narcotics
category, and it went up 55%. This category includes prescription narcotic painkillers,
cocaine, and heroin

Government is always slow to adopt something new or past illegal. Take for instance new drugs that have been prov en by scientists in labs. The government still holds back approval for the public. Marijuana has been into many discussions as to the value or disvalue of usage. I agree it is time to step up procedures of recognition. I even believe if government would allow other habit forming drugs as legal that the Mexican Cartel would just have to find another way to make a living. Yes, experimenters would die more readily. But smart people will live. I grew up in a society where cigarettes, and booze was the going sin. Times have certainly changed.!!!

From using, or getting shot while buying and selling?

Just a guess, but I'd guess that the latter is much more hazardous than the former.

We may be stewards of the earth, not own it, but hold it in trust for future generations...but if there is one thing we own completely...it is our bodies.... Government...keep your filthy hands off!
