I plug my iPod nano into the computer, and it just doesn't detect it!

Well, on the iPod it says its charging, but there is no acknowledgement on the computer that the iPod is there.

ITunes doesn't show the picture of my iPod there, and the computer doesn't provide the "Safely Remove Hardware" option, which I guess means the computer won't detect the iPod.

Is there any way to fix this problem without taking it into the store?

Thanks.

This is odd. It happens to my video iPod too sometimes. But I just unplug it and plug it back in and eventually it comes up. Sometimes it takes a loooong time, though.
