"The Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw. It's a little longer than you ask, but it is filled with very short interviews with famous and not so famous people who were involved with World War II. (You could read a couple of the essays from each section and have enough material for your report.)
Or go to www.amazon.com and ask for books about American government. It will give you a large selection, plus a short blurb about the contents and the length of each book. You could select several that sound interesting and then look for them at your local library.
For that matter, you could go to the library first and talk to a librarian about what you need and get loads of information.
