I came out to my circle of friends and family at age 36. It was a relief but also difficult for a couple of my family members.
As time goes on the need to be "out" is not so important, at least for me.
At this time of my life I really don't care if people know or not.
I live my life and the choice of partners is mine....if someone else doesn't like me because I am gay it's not my problem, it is theirs....I really don't care.
There are lots of good people in the world who like/love me for who I am, not who I sleep with and those are the people I want in my life. Not small minded bigots.

I'm doing both Legal Studies, and Community and Family Studies, for my last year of schooling. I can get away with a lot of questions on the pretense of researching community perceptions for essays. I know what my family think of homosexuality and definitely Wont be coming out to them until I move out. As for my friends, I told one of my best friends and her boyfriend. She was brilliant about it. Not being ready to come out yet, it's brilliant that we can just go have a girls night out and I can hang around someone who knows. Her boyfriend however, did a complete personality flip. I reckon he thinks that since I'm a lesbian, it's suddenly alright for him to be extremely affectionate to the point where others have assumed we were a couple. WTF?! And he keeps blatantly hinting that he wants a threesome. My best friend has been brilliant about the whole thing and hasn't changed, but I won't be coming out just yet to anyone else.

If by everybody in my social and family circle you mean those on Yahoo Answers, then yes.
In all honesty, this is the only place I am out.

Congrats to you! Honestly, my closest friends know that I'm bisexual, and I tell anyone that I'm comfortable telling. My family is a different story. I haven't told them at all. It would be a very ugly situation. I'm fine with them not knowing. The fact that I have friends that know, and love me anyway is very liberating.

I'm glad you did, but I'm bisexual as well but I'm only open to a few of my friends. As far as anyone else, it's none of their business since I don't have any intent on having relationships with them.

Too much work. I didn't really bother, but after a couple of decades living with the same guy if they can't figure out we're not just roommates I'm not going to burst their bubble.

I have come to the point where I don't go around telling people. If you know me for long enough you are bound to figure it out, if not you weren't worth telling in the first place.

Congratulations! :D
The question doesn't really apply to me... some people assume I'm a lesbian for supporting gay rights, but they're d*****s. Everyone else knows I'm straight.
