If he had said that he'd be stripped of rank and command, i.e. fired.

The left is not stupid even if they are naive. Their mantra of "love the soldier - hate the war" is clever, but contrived. You have seen the quotes about soldiers killing innocent civilians, about the failure of the military, etc. ad nauseam. They know that by saying that they respect the military they feel that they are protecting themselves from criticism. Sorry...it does not work that way.
The entire anti-war effort from the git-go has undermined our efforts and prolonged the conflict. Shame on those who have made this political at the expense of our fine military men and women.

Of course. That would be what they wanted to hear.
Rspecting the military also means respecting their reports and comanders.

I have respect for the military. That's all I have for our military; respect. I don't have respect for our leaders.

Nope they'd just find another reason to verbally bash the military and they'd look for another excuse to dismantle the military and they'd make up more lies to further divide the country.

Many military people have said this.
I wonder why conservatives choose not to listen to such people.
For example: "The consequence of the military's quiescence was that a fundamentally flawed plan was executed for an invented war."

no the left would probably scream about it being a conspiracy theory and reverse psychology and continue to to insult a smarter, more experienced and much nobler person because moveon.org told them to

Well you can also make the assumption that if he requested troop withdrawal how long would it take the American right call for his resignation or censure him?

No, because I've always HAD respect for the military.
But I never expected Petraeus to say anything except exactly what he said because any General that has not fully backed Bush's agenda has already been fired or "encouraged to resign" (Powell, Pace, Shinseki, Zinni, etc...).

General Patraeus is fighting for our country and risking his life along with all the troops. This shows 'how he is being treated' that democrats do not support our troops in any way.
