I have been asked "what's age have to with it". Do you not realize that "guy" originally exclusively meant "males" and the whole object of my question was to see if the change in the meaning in the word bothered older people and/or if younger people even realized it changed?

"You guys" has become generic over the last couple of decades for reference to both genders. Few people take it literally.

Older than the age that Jack Benny claimed.

No, it doesn't bother me at all. *Guys* seems like such a generic term to me and and the context that it's usually used in seems innocent for the most part. I know this man who consistently refers to his wife as 'woman' rather than by her name, usually when he wants something or is being commanding. She *is* a woman of course, but in this context it's totally rude and disrespectful. I also know of a couple who refer to their child as a 'little lady' and she's never allowed to do kid things like play in the dirt and catch bugs. Never have I detested the word *lady* so much!

Words can be so relative. Always consider the source.

Not necessarily because of the sex of the people being addressed, but it does bother me if I'm in a restaurant or someplace, and I and my party (no matter the sex) are addressed as "You guys". I just think it's too familiar for someone you've just met, especially a customer. I'm 30.

Doesn't bother me at all. I think of that word as a nice generic word meaning people, when used in a mixed group.

saying "you guys" is more non gender specific now days so I don't feel offended when I ask some of my female friends if "you guys" are ready.

They usually will come back with "last time I checked I didn't have a penis.

YES it does ! You can't say I like this guy....and then refer to women as guys ! Makes no sence !

I don't go to my male friends and say, hey girls what's up ?..ok I do, but that's just humor.

I'm 24. Give 10 point, I'm getting old, don't wanna die 10 pointlessly !

AGE 43:

If there ever was a group of people that would be offended by it, it would probably be school teachers.

'doll' used to apply to males and females, meaning the same as 'dummy'. 'guy' had the same meaning, then it became non derogatory. now, it's commonly used by both sexes, especially younger people. i'm old, but i use it for both sexes.

Depends on who is saying it. I'm 32. What has our age got to do with our answer?

No, not in that context because it's referring to two or more people. I do have a friend though who calls everyone, men and women, "man". THAT annoys me!
