If Rooney's back full fit & scoring goals & Heskeys doing what he does now for Wigan would you HONESTLY choose Heskey over Rooney?
Anyone who watched Euro 2004 saw how well Owen & Rooney combined but they havn't played alot together since due to injuries to both
Owens looking back to his best & if we can get Rooney the same we could be challengers again

Its hard to leave a fit Rooney out...but its obvious that Owen much prefers playing offf an old-fashioned big powerful strike partner who can knock the ball down for him, like the second goal tonight. Also , defenders hate big strikers but with Rooney and Owen in the same team, both our strikers are small.
Rooney & Owen are just too similar. Heskey is not as skilled as Rooney, but he's shown he's a better team player and its all about a balanced team...not just picking the eleven biggest stars and hoping they work ok together.

If Lampard mentioned what he's counseled to have mentioned there is not any way he must be interior the group to stand Croatia. you are able to no longer under any circumstances physique of ideas such an important interest with this unfavourable physique of ideas. in reality Lampard does not deserve a commencing place in any adventure. England have been thrown a life line and could they fail to exploit this they should get roasted. Arguably Gareth Barry has been one in all britain's superb gamers over the final 3 of four internationals. England's performances a great deal better whilst he got here into the group as there grow to be plenty greater stability to the area. i observed against Austria that in the beginning McClaren began with Gerrard and Lampard in midfield because of the fact he had to have yet another look at them jointly. the entire u . s . a . is time-honored with they won't be able to play jointly. Has this no longer sunk in with McClaren yet? 2d 0.5 he's taking Gerrard off and brings Barry on. McClaren then proclaims that Lampard grow to be guy of the adventure. Gerrard has no longer performed properly for England for some important time nor has Lampard. Given McClaren can no longer drop Gerrard are we going back to a Gerrard/Lampard midfield. This spells disaster. He ought to compound it via including Beckham interior the area. we would then have 2 underperforming midfield gamers and a participant who does no longer final greater desirable than 40 5 minutes by way of loss of adventure play interior the group already lacking the favourite strikers and important defenders. the sole convenience we've is that Croatia has already qualified. Given the circumstances if we can't handle a minimum of a draw the administrative and group will deserve each and everything this is thrown at them.

What's silly about it? We have shown in the last 2 games that we now have a better team, a team that plays well together, and most importantly, a team that wins games. And it's good TEAMS that win games not good individuals! Don't let club allegiances cloud your judgement. Be honest, when was the last time Rooney had a good game in an England shirt? Maybe the reason England have been unsuccessful for the last 40 years is because some players know they're gonna be picked game after game regardless of performances...

no red d, i usually agree with you but here i have to disagree, no one should be untouchable.
Lampard a few of years ago was probably better than gerrard and for however long he has been in the team until now because he was considered "untouchable" , thankfully he got injured that way we got to see what a brilliant job Barry did in both these internationals.
Owen plays well with Heskey and he provided owen and other players with many opportunities because of his unselfish play, so my opinion is if its working dont mess with it, our next game is Estonia at home so with the team playing as they were it should be a walk in the park.
Altough if you told me we had to make one change that would be the only one i'd allow, because rooney and owen also play well together, and if anyone dares put lampard in for barry then there will be heads rolling!!!!!!

The best quote there is " If it isn't broke don't fix it"
First of all Rooney is terrible for England, anyone who says otherwise is either blind, or a Man u fan. What has he done this campaign? Nothing thats right.
It's England you are talking about what is the best strike partnership? Big man small man. So keep Heskey he has been playing very good and Owen can't do anything wrong now.
Gareth Barry should start with Gerrard we have finally found a midfield parntership that works.
You mention untouchables there is only one untouchable, Gerrard.

I agree Rooney should still be a starter, but i think the others have done us proud. Its good to mix it up once in a while, look at what its given us. We have had two convincing wins in a row, when was the last time that happened. Even with Sven we didn't feel as confident as this. If we win all our remaining games convincingly then we will be questioning why we ever doubted Mclaren!

Would you have said the same about Owen being "untouchable" 6 months ago?
Heskey played a great game tonight, he was working very well with Owen....when you watch Owen and Rooney, they don't link as well so I would say it isn't silly to remain unchanged at all....not that it will
Rooney plays well as a burst of something extra to change a game, as a sub, he'd be available to provide the extra push if we're struggling

Really funny thing is, if the team is left the same, and we play badly or get beaten, everyone will be screaming that the manager is useless and we should have played Rooney. Same if we change and bring Rooney back and we play badly. Everyone will be saying we shouldn't have changed. That's why it's easy for us to be arm chair critics, who'd be a manager? Not me.
