The above condition doesn't mean you monitor has gone bad. Is power light green or orange. If orange, your monitor is not receiving any video signal which can be due to:-
1> break in monitor cable.
2> pin bend in connector of monitor cable.
Check this first before declaring monitor going bad.

Good advise.
Also, always try the monitor on another PC if you can.
If it fails there, swap cables. If it fails again, then it could be bad.
If it works on the other PC, then you know it's Ok.
If it works on the other PC only after swapping cables, then you know it's the cable.
If it does work on the other PC, and it's not the cable, then either your video card/subsystem is bad, or a setting got changed accidentally.
If it is the video card/subsystem, then post again for more advise.
Also, I don't know what type of monitor you have. If it's a CRT, then repairs cost more than a new one. Take it to the recycle yard and go shopping.
If it's an LCD, then you may consider a repair, but check your warranty first. Many carried longer warranties. LCD prices have come down so much lately, even repairing one today may not be worth it. All new LCD's are much more reliable and have more consistant color characteristics.

Good answers above.
The other thing to look for is to unplug the cable. Almost all monitors will produce a "Check signal cable" message, or some other similar message.
If you do not get that then it is almost definitely a repair job.
You can repair anything. It is just a question of whether the repair costs more than the replacement. And that is going to depend on what is broken.
