If the key will not turn and you are using the correct key, try to turn the steering wheel a bit (you may have to put some pressure on it!) and while turning the wheel try to turn the key. You may have to try turning the wheel in the other direction if that does not work, but you will be able to start the car.

What has happened is the wheel was turned when the ignition was turned off, and it is now pushing against the lock and making it hard to turn!

You didn't really say what the problem is,so i'm assumimg you can't turn the key to start the car.IF your parked against a curb or downhill against anything, look at your front tires, see if they are angled in either direction. If so git in the car and pull on steering wheel in the direction the tires are and try turning the key at the same time.Sometimes there's just enought pressure on the steering lock to keep you from turning the key.IF thats not the problem, email or amend this question with more info.....George

Did you try turning the steering wheel while you tried to turn the key? I used to have a truck that the steering wheel would lock sometimes and I had to pull the wheel as hard as I could to one side or the other while trying to turn the key.

If that doesn't do it, sometimes the ignition can be locked by other things, like if the car thinks someone had tried to steal it. If it is something computer controlled like that, you can probably get a mechanic to reset it pretty cheap.

Try to turn the key while turning the wheel in both directions. Sometimes the wheel lock mechanism will get stuck and has to be 'jiggled' a little.
