in the south? Have you ever eaten any breadfruit, if so how was it prepared?
My Mother-in-Law just gave me a seed from a breadfruit tree. My intentions are to plant it next year in Texas. I understand that they grow up to 6 feet high.

I've seen them in Jamaica. They do grow quite tall and the fruit is quite nutritious. Growth will be rapid. This is the tree which HMS Bounty, under Captain Bligh, was sent to the South Pacific to harvest. The intent was to bring them back to the West Indies so they could be replanted to feed the slaves on the plantations there.

Breadfruit is a tropical tree. It should grow really well if you live in the damp parts of texas.

I have an aunt that lives in Jacksonville Florida. Her backyard is separated from the ocean beach by mango trees that the council planted as a "break". NONE of the residents eats the mangos from those trees...they are all left to fall when overripe and the fruit is then bulldozed under the sand to cut down on the stink of the rotting fruit. She says most of them are the size of cantaloupes.

Up here in Canada we have been known to spend $1 on still green mangoes 1/4 that size.

Yes I have seen them on ,many occasions on my visits to Puerto Rico. I'm afraid you won't succeed in Texas. The climate in Texas is not tropical. You need year round warm to hot weather. And the trees grow very tall. Growing 50 feet high is very common.
The breadfruit is very tasty. I will say it doesn't taste like chicken. LOL. It has a very unique flavor all of its own.
Cooking involves boiling it, but first you need to remove the skin. Its sort of like rind in texture. You have to slice it off like peeling apples or oranges.
Its best if eaten with other tropical vegetables such as green bananas, yucca and other stuffs. All boiled. Best also with a separate side dish of cooked salted codfish with onions.

I have never heard of a Breadfruit tree, so no, I have never eaten its fruit. Look the tree up on the internet to see if it will grow in Texas. It should grow really BIG.....isn't everything BIG in Texas? ~lol~

I have eaten it in Jamaica! It is a huge tree with huge fruits on it. I wasn't quite sure I liked the taste though. It must be an acquired taste, or one I have not acquired as yet. Perhaps it will grow, I am not sure where you are in TX since it is a huge state with lots of different topography!

Maybe start it indoors until it grows bigger and see what happens
