It might implode.
CRTs and TV tubes have a vacuum inside, so you don't have to worry about an explosion.
But it could short circuit and cause a fire.

No.
CRTs could theoretically implode, but it would never be a danger to the user under normal use.
Part of the safety testing for all CRTs is to drop a 1 kg (2.2 lbs) ball 1 m (39") onto the screen surface.
So unless you are going to whack it with a sledgehammer, you are O.K.
My guess would be that you had an electrolytic capacitor blow, and that caused something else to fail. The bigger caps can make a big bang.
Although it will not explode you should turn it off and unplug it.

If its an old (bulky) CRT monitor then the tube is evacuated so it is more likely to implode than explode. These monitors sometimes need to be degaussed to overcome a build-up of static charge. You can generally find a control to do this manually but it may have been triggered automatically. Degaussing has a characteristic funny noise but not usually a flash.

Yah, each and every so often exhibit screen contraptions try this through decision. I had one that lasted 10 years (surprisingly previous, huh). On that tenth 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, i bought a clean computer. the replace in decision did the comparable element. It grew to become right into a sluggish technique, (4 months) till now it died. It did the comparable element. smelled like smoke, and that i had to unplug it.

As said, yes, it can implode, the gun (back end) of the tube would come straight in your face! Except, the designers were aware of this many moons ago, and the front face of the tube is specially tough to protect you.
