my baby is 12 mos old today and i've been doing 1/2 cows milk and 1/2 formula.

when i was giving her 8 oz of formula she would get only 1/2 of the formula to water, so i was giving her 8oz of water to 2 scoops of formula.

also in every bottle she would have 2 tbls of prunes

this is because she could not pass a bowel movement otherwise. so now that i'm switching her i wasn't adding the prunes and she was very constipated and screaming when passing a bowel movement.

should i put prunes in every bottle still? when i go to all whole milk? or should she be ok?

or would rice or soy milk be better? are these less constipating then formula?

Cow's milk is extremely hard on even an adult stomach believe it or not. Their are many formulas for children out there to put your toddler on that are packed full of the nutrients that they need to grow properly. I suggest that you continue them on one like gerber or carnation for toddlers or if you wish to put them onto a milk, than use some kind that is more gentler on their tummy like goats milk. A lot of babies will develope a very serious alergy to milk as they grow up if they are getting it too early in their childhood. You want to keep with a good sourse of calcium in the milk so it is best to use animal milk of some sort if you do not use the formula kind. That is why goat is the best.

Constipation CAN be from sensitivity to formula or cows milk. I would try rice or soy milk, as you suggested. They may be easier on baby's tummy, but if this did not help I would seek the advice of a pediatrician. Constipation can be a sign of other, more serious conditions, and though these conditions are RARE, if you've switched around formulas/milk without success, it's best to check it out with your baby's doctor.

Actually, cow milk is fine, but if you are goint to use formula, just use that. Most of the formulas our there are nutritious enough to use on their own. If you do want to start them on part milk, see if you can get them some soy milk. It's just easier on baby's tummy. Take care!

My healthcare expert reported it to me and it did artwork. Think about it... we are the only mammal that normally drinks the milk of another animal. Our bodies don't process cow's milk properly. We get better calcium from orange juce and leafy greens.

I put my daughter on rice milk and she loved it. It's thinner (more like skim milk) but it comes in different flavors!

since your baby is 1 year old. it is best to give her high-fiber foods such as fruits and vegetables. increasing fluids is also good to prevent constipation. Do this after feeding solid foods. All formula can cause constipation

I really think consulting your childs dr is the best answer on this question. They have been around throughout your daughters first year and they are professionals. They can give you better advice or options. Good Luck!

I understand that cow's milk is difficult to digest and you might want to try goat's milk.
Soy is a common allergen so I wouldn't use that.
