To change your last name if it is because you just got married and want to change it to your married name all you have to do is take your marriage license (have several copies made just in case) to the SS office along with your ss card with your maiden name on it and file for a new card. Do the same at the DMV, with any of your credit cards, etc .... usually, aside from any fees each individual agency charges, there is no cost for this.

NO! It doesn't cost that kind of money.
You take your marriage certificate, your birth certificate, your SS card to the social security office. You fill out some paperwork and in 4-6 weeks your new SS card show up.
Then you go to the DMV with same information and they make you a new drivers license. ($14)
Call your creditors and debtors that your name has changed, they may want a certified copy of your marriage license for their records.
Inform your place of employment (human resources) that your name is changed and fill out a new W4 to adjust your payroll withholding. Also, there is an change of life adjustment period where you can change your health insurance to reflect your married status. (add and/or remove people)
Total cash spent to change my name to my husband's was $45. That was to get 2 certified copies of my marriage certificate and to mail them to my creditors by registered mail. Also, includes the new driver's license.

i do no longer understand the place you have been, yet to alter your driving force's license it many times value the cost of a replace. Like 15 money. With info of call replace, ie Marriage license etc. To do credit enjoying cards purely call the business enterprise, would would desire to fax over info back. regardless of the undeniable fact that it would not value everywhere close to $3 hundred. the place have been you?

After marriage? The first thing you do is wait on your marriage certificate. Once you have that, you go to the SS office to change your name on your SS card, then you change your driver's license, bank accounts, credit cards and anything else with your name on it. It only cost as much as it cost for a license ($24 for me). It's free everywhere else. I got several certified copies of my marriage certificate so I could mail them to all of these places. you have to physically go to the bank and license bureau though. It's not that big of a deal.

when getting married? or just to change it?
When you get married you change it for free, well except for the cost of the marriage license and drivers license.
When you change it w/out marriage it'll cost whatever the lawyers fee, filing fees, etc.
