Yes, but it is currently nothing more than conservative think tank material. It is a hypothetical counterpart to the Euro and a conspiratorial pretext to North American Unification. Not entirely unbelievable.

In 2005, Bush met with Canada's Prime Minister and Mexico's President in Waco, Texas to discuss the formation of the North American Union, wherein all three nations would become one, with one currency, the Amero.

Apparently, Bush has done this without the consent or approval of Congress, and without the knowledge of the American citizenry.

Allegedly, Bush also had a more recent meeting with these two other leaders. Supposedly, this is all part of a 60-year-old plan to form seven "unions" (including the European Union, the Asian Union, the African Union, etc.) which would then ultimately be blended into one central world government. Use any search engine - Goodsearch or Google, for example - and type in "North American Union". You'll find a plethora of information; it's up to you to sift through it and determine its credibility. -RKO- 09/12/07

There is already a recognized world currency. It's called the US dollar. Readily accepted just about everywhere.
