Good question. Pink Floyd hired a company called Hypgnosis to do many of their classic covers.
I spent hours staring at AC\DC's Back in Black and the pics inside not realizing until years later that Back in Black was a reference to the late great singer Bon Scott.
My all time fav is Dire Straits live album Alchemy. It is a Daliesque design that keeps your eyes occupied for hours while listening to an incredible live album.
