No she was lying. If she doesn't want to be cursed at, she probably shouldn't be cold-calling peoples homes, and insulting them for the way they answer their own telephones.

She might be referring to various FCC rules regarding hostile communication over broadcasting...
However, you aren't broadcasting. Your conversation is supposedly private (+/- homeland security), so you are basically under the same guidelines as for a normal conversation - you can't threaten somebody with bodily harm, etc.
Did she tell you that she was recording the conversation to begin with? If not, she can be in major trouble - not because its illegal (its not illegal for someone to record a conversation that they are a party to), but because of the liability the company takes on when it does this.
In any case - don't threaten people, either in person or over the phone. If for no other reason than it is illegal and someone might be recording you commiting a crime.

Making threatening or obscene remarks on a telephone is illegal. However, I seriously doubt the federal government has time to investigate you cursing a telemarketer.

Pff, they wish. About 99.9 percent of the time, the telemarketers and the collectors are the ones breaking the law. This is one of those situations.

It used to be a crime to curse over telephone lines, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.

It's not a Federal Crime. They don't have to call you if they don't want to hear it. You can however ask them to take you off their list, and they have to comply according to Federal law!

only if their life was threatened, and even then, I think it would be a state issue, not a federal one.
