with packages of 8 and 12 the least common multiple is 24. So the 30 persons must eat a multiple of 24 hot dogs/buns. The lowest multiple of 30 fulfilling this is 120.
So there will be 10 packs of hot dogs = 120
15 packs of buns = 120
each person gets 4

There are 30 people so you want a common multiple of 12, 8 and 30.
120 hot dogs means each person gets 4 and you buy 15 packs of buns and 10 packs of wieners.
The easiest way to find the lowest common denominator is to count in multiples for each until you hit one in common.
30, 60, 90, 120
12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120
8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120

So the lowest common multiple is 120.
30,60,90,120
120/8 = 15
Now all you do is divide 120/12 and 120/8 to get 10 packs hotdogs and 15 bun packs. You won't have any leftovers because when you divide the numbers there is no leftovers or decimals.
10 pack hotdogs
15 pack buns
