The car is a classic, but I don't want to pay classic money for a book!

I've been using the Web for years, i've exhausted the usual sites as well as Mercedes (they want a credit card number but don't give a price!)

I got my book from Mercedes, although it did cost me a few dollars. If you are in the US, call 1-800-367-6372 and follow the promts. I had my books in days.
Hope this helps.
PS- They quoted me the price of the book, including shipping and I was only charged that amount on my credit card.

CD-ROM versions of the W126 manual were available for around $300 some years ago but I understand the average price may have fallen. I do not believe a print version has been publicly available. As I understand it, the CD version does not include the transmission.

Some of the people on the "MB coupes" site, SEC section may be able to put you onto one but you will have to register on the site. At least that is free and some of the people there know the SEC, which has mostly the same engine, transmission, air con, instruments etc really well. They don't mind if you have a sedan.

Have you tried going to the Mercedes-Benz museum at their home base? I will be shocked to oblivion if a copy isn't on display por at least archived as a library item there.

Also try hunting used car dealers as well as hunting online at car review sites. Heres an interesting idea, try to make contact with: Jay Leno, Jeremy Clarkson (BBC's "Top Gear" ) or Tiff Needel (BBC's "5th Gear"). I have faith in those guys when it comes to finding these kind of things.
