Yes you are wrong . People need to rely on you . Sometimes it just helps making promises even both you and the one you promise smth to know it's unlikely to come true.

It's not wrong if that's the way you feel. But think of it this way. Most normal people know that things happen in life that might throw things off and yeah, they could be let down because of it, so they take a promise as something that you said you would do when nothing else was getting in the way, but extenuating circumstances might get in the way and things change and you can't keep the promises you made because of that. (Or at least that's how they should see it.) So why not make a promise? Just don't make one you KNOW you can't keep.

your right, you dont know whats gonna happen - but with most promises you are making it with the full intention of keeping it, within reason. You can promise that you will come to a party and if you get sick and cant go then thats understandable but you cant look at your kid and promise nothing bad is ever gonna happen or promise that you are never gonna leave someone..... i used to tell my boyfriend that i would love him til i didnt anymore and thats all i could promise cuz you never know..... now i am married and have promised to love him until he screws up - naw, just kidding!

i understand what you say,but if what you are implying is in a relationship way then i think you should just go with the flow and act on how you feel at the moment, but you are right you never know whats round the corner so live each day like its your last and just have fun.....i think from what youve asked you need to find deep down who you really are...and ask yourself are you afraid of commitment.things in your past don,t always reflect on who you are and not all people will part from your life.good luck

I think it's fine that you believe in no promises.
It's reasonable taking that if you promise something to someone you'd be letting THEM down if you do it. At the end of the day, it's your decision, not theirs.

You're absolutely right.
Don't make promises you can't be sure you'll keep.
When someone comes along who's worth keeping
your promises for at any price, your promises will
be worth something.

I actually know a few people like that. I'm one of them. I totally agree with you because you don't know if something will happen and inadvertanly let someone down.
