I always say a baby monitor is welcome in the house...theres no age even at three its nice to hear if they wander out of their beds.(could be painting the walls )its nice extra security.

I only ever had the monitor on when I was downstairs and they were upstairs - I figured during the night, if they needed me that bad they'd cry loud enough for me to hear, and I didn't want the monitor in my room to hear every sigh and turn. Once my daughter turned 2 1/2 or so I stopped using it alltogether, but she was coordinated enough to get out of bed and come downstairs if she really really needed something.

My son is 18 months and I still use one in his room. He has recently started sleeping in his "big bed" and so I put a safety gate in his doorway to prevent him from sneaking into the kitchen garbage in the middle of the night! lol

Once I feel like he is old enough for me to remove the baby gate from his doorway, then I will most likely stop using the monitor as well (since he will have the freedom to come to our bedroom if he needs to)

The laugh of the day! I'm 61 years old and still use a baby monitor! But not for the baby, lol. For me, so I can hear if there is anyone in my home at night since I live alone!

Hi my son is 18 months and he sleeps in a toddler bed and he has been in a toddler bed since he was 14 months old we have a baby gate what swings open so he cant get out of his room if he was to wake up. and trust me youll know when he wakes up because he will stand at the gate and let you know he is up. When we put him to sleep we just put him in his room yeah sometimes he will cry but you cant give in he will go get up in his bed and go to sleep. I think you can stop using the baby monitor and try to get him in a toddler bed trust me once you do it you wont worry.

Hmm, when she got so loud I didn't need it. My mother watches my niece in the evenings and she just got a monitor for her so she can determine the real vs fake cries more easily. I don't think it's an age thing - more of a location thing. If you're going to be far away from his room or in the backyard....keep it on.

I never used a baby monitor. I left their door open and mine too and since a mother automatically will get a keen sence of sound that enhances when you get pregnant so that you are prepared for mothering when baby comes, I always heard them and knew when they were awake.
