Here in San Diego County, our sales tax is right about 8 1/4%. I usually double the says tax to calculate the tip unless I received bad service. I made give a little more for good service. I'm a REALLY good tipper if I'm using a gift certificate.

I tip according to the service I receive. At a minimum it starts at 20%..and either goes up or down from there. And yes, I have left a penny on the table. But that occasion also warranted a chat with the manager/owner.

If the service is good I give at least 20 percent. As a kid I was a busboy and I have an appreciation for what lousy wages restaurants pay.

Depends on the service. If the waitress or waiter shows me to my table then disappears until the food comes then disappears again until it is time to bring the check, they don't get a tip. At all. They have to earn it. If they give good service then they get tipped well. Very well..

Yea, if the service is good, I make sure the get what they deserve. I treated myself to a steak, once and the waitress was really nice. Heck, she even flirted with me. Now, at my age, that made me feel really groovy. I tipped her a ten for a 12.00 meal. Peace!

15% for good service and 20% for great sevice. I think over tipping is something an asshole does or someone that wants to look like a big shot.
