you can buy this type of 'calrose rice' at almost all grocery store. (20lbs, $8~$10)

basically we eat white rice. but lots of japanese like to mix with barley or millet. you just add some when you boil rice. and some japanese like brown rice too.

we dont steam rice but boil or just use rice cooker. (you can buy at asian store $20~)

1, Saba (mackerel), sardine (not the canned one of course), tuna (mostly sushi) 2. I don't know what japanese rice called in America. Japanese got quite brands for that, like hitomibore, koshihikari, etc 3. Most veggies?? Nasu (japanese black eggplant), peas, etc etc... quite common actually. Japanese meal? Try udon and soba. Also try their sushi (not fusion type), donburi (rice bowl meal), omuraisu (omelette rice), etc

japanese people, much like the rest of the world eat all kinds of rice including short grain sticky rice, brown rice and jasmine rice.

any vegetables in any combination go well with rice.

leeks are a type of onion.

miso is another name for soy sauce.

some additional veggies - jicama, cauliflower, beans, string beans, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, peas,
sprouts of any kind, scallions, onions, garlic

rice can be boiled or steamed. i've even done it in the microwave.

Are you talking about Japanese people from Japan?Japenese from Japan eat primarily white rice that's cooked in a rice cooker or pot of boiling water.

My husband is Japanese (4th generation in Hawaii) and we eat brown rice (since it's healthier for you).

As far as what veggies they eat it with, they eat rice with everything. What are you trying to make? Some sort of stir fry or something?

Miso is fermented beans that are made into a paste and used to make soup with (along with tofu) and leeks are a root vegetable that you can get at most asian stores (unless you're from Hawaii like I am and you can get them at any grocery store).

As far as healthly veggies, all vegtables are healthy for you. It's how you cook them and what you cook them with that causes them to lose their nutrional value.

Hope that helps.....

Good luck and happy cooking!
