i don't think it's a matter of a given numerical weight - it's dependent on a number of factors - general health, weights normally lifted (e.g. babies, children already looked after) blood pressure, first pregnancy or not etc etc
Lifting heavy weights can damage your own muscles and ligaments which are already softened in pregnancy and put under extra strain.
In my first pregnancy, I believed (naively) from scraps of information that if you lifted something heavy, your baby died. Hm, not exactly true, but I wanted to be careful and lifted nothing heavier than a baked bean can for 9 month! By the time i was pregnant the second time, i realised the danger was more to myself, yet I had a busy life with a toddler to maintain and lifted all kinds of stuff as normal... and by 8 months had high blood pressure, a hell of a lot of back, hip and pelvis pain and was put on bed rest by my doc....
So i think you have to made a sensible decision based on your lifestyle and what your body is normally used to, but avoid any unnecessary lifting - particularly that which makes you bend and twist in awkward ways, like carry vacuum cleaners up the stairs...

Don't lift a finger. You're making another human....Trust me, allow your self to rest. Get someone else to do the lifting!

I lift 50# bags at work...but, I try not to do it too often. Check with your doctor...I'd be interested to know for sure too!
