there are 30 kids in the class
2 are 130 to 140cm tall
15 are 140 to 150cm tall
12 are 150 to 160 cm tall and
1 is 160 to 170cm tall
so the tally is 2, 15, 12, 1
what on earth is the "frequency"???
10 pts if you can help the little shite, i mean he should bl**dy pay attention but i dont want him to end up thick! thank you

Frequency is how often a measure occurs
The frequencies in your question are 2 , 15 , 12 and 1
Total frequency = 30
This suggests that it might be a class of 30 pupils.
2 pupils lie in 130 to 140 cm range
15 pupils lie in 140 to 150 cm range
12 pupils lie in 150 to 160 cm range
1 pupil lies in 160 to 170 cm range.
If you were to work out the mean height you would use the middle values as follows:-
(2 x 135) + (15 x 145) + (12 x 155) + (1 x 165)
= 4370 cm
Mean = 4370 / 30 cm
Mean = 145.7 cm

The frequency would just be the number in that range over the total number of kids.
So for the 130 to 140 cm (2 kids) it would be 2/30 (30 = total number of kids) or 1/15 simplified.

It doesn't seem as if you typed the entire problem. However, frequency is how often something occurs. So the 'tally' would be the frequency.
Ex: The frequency of kids whose height is 140-150 is 15.
Don't be so hard on the kid. We (people in general) don't absorb everything that is presented to us right at first. It takes time to sink in.
Hope this helps.

frequency is percent of total in each group
total = 30
so 2/30, 15/30, 12/30, and 1/30 respectively

frequency is just the number of times the event occured in the sample.
in this case it's 2+15+12+1 = 30
Frequency = 30
I hate how they have labels that don't really mean anything. It's like they need to complicate math.

2/30 =1/15
15/30 = 1/2
12/30 = 2/5
1/30 = 1/30

frequency is just a tally, the number of times it occurs. Make a table:
height frequency percentage
130-140 2 ..... .067
140-150 15 ...... .50
150-160 12 ...... .40
160-170 1 ........ .033
If you need them as percentage (ex: for a pie graph), then just divide them by the total - 30.

Frequency distribution is an organized display of a set of data that shows how often each different piece of data occurs.
You put the data into a chart form.
This website explains it pretty well..

sorry it's a bit long.
hope that helps!

The sample interval is 10cm because each group has a span of 10 cm. The frequency is usually the inverse of the interval but I am not sure it makes sense in this case.
