obviously it's going to be swollen for a while but I am just wondering, when I DO need to change the bar, what size should I go for?!!! Is there like a standard size? I've seen some as small as 8mm while others are twice as big. I don't want something that will be too tight but also don't want some huge thing lolling about in my mouth getting in the way! Any advice would be very welcome!

You should go back to the person who did the piercing on a weekly basis and they should change the bar for you replacing it with a smaller one each time. A reputable piercer will know what size to put in each time. P.S. Make sure you keep your mouth really clean!

I know this is after the fact, but I can only caution you against infection and blood swallowing. Anything that's in the mouth and not being swallowed unless it's planted - is 'in the way'. I hope you won't regret doing this.

when my daughter had hers done they told her to come back after 6 weeks i think to change to a smaller one, they put a big one in first to allow for any swelling. if they have not told u to come back u should go and ask them what to do.
