does anybody have some ideas for a surprise proposal in novel form? I'm on the last part of my novel and it involves a proposal. All ideas welcome. Thanks

That would depend on the situation and the characters involved. I would have to assume it would be something related to the personalities of the characters. Otherwise it becomes some kind of a deus ex machina situation that just falls out of nowhere and doesn't fit. What are their occupations? What are their interests? What is happening at the time of the proposal? Those are the kinds of things one would have to know in order to be able to answer your question. You want it to be a surprise yet it still has to be in character with something your two characters would be doing at the time of the proposal.

I have known some very odd proposals. My youngest brother proposed by giving his fiance an expensive leather key case. She freaked out thinking he got her a car. Inside her engagement ring was on one of the hooks. I also know someone who gave his fiance a book that he had hollowed out and inserted the ring. There are a million ideas - just figure out where your characters might be at the time he pops the question. It could be anything from skydiving to on a roller coaster. In a glass of champagne or tied to the neck of a puppy. Keep it in character.

If the characters are having dinner, let the proposer pretend to be choking on something and when he/she falls to one knee on the floor, the ring falls out into the palm of the hand and the character says. "will you marry me?"
