In 1965 a guy named Barry McGuire brought out
" Eve of destruction " which was immediately banned over here
in the Netherlands.
Not only from the airwaves, but they were actually confiscated
and taken out of the record shops, it's a collectors item.
It was banned by many American radio stations, and the BBC
and radio Scotland refused to play it.
By some it is regarded as the most iconic protest song ever,
and it certainly got the conservatives blood pressure up.

And there is some very old stuff by Tom Lehrer from the wonderful album ' An evening wasted with Tom Lehrer "

" Send the Marines " could have been written today.

Here's a few for you:

"The Soldier" - Harvey Andrews. Seen by the BBC as a protest at British presence in Northern Ireland but actually more of a lament against the pointless loss of life of those who did not need to be there in the first place.

"What Have They Done To The Rain" - The version I have was sung by The Seekers but was written by someone else (Dylan maybe?).

"Blowin' In The Wind" - Again, the version I have is by The Seekers. Pretty sure Bob Dylan wrote it.

"Universal Soldier" - Donovan

Not sure of the title but Harvey Andrews again:

"Now those who kissed others for Freedom
like Judas are taking the gold.
Conditioned to pay all the bills every day
with the fruits of the promises sold."

"Living By Numbers" - New Music

"Hey Matthew" - Karel Fialka

"What Are We Making Weapons For?" - John Denver

"The Final Cut" - Pink Floyd. Fantastic and very anti-Maggie album.

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot destruction,
sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
Death and hatred to mankind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.
Oh lord, yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away.
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

Time will tell on their power minds,
making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercies for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
Oh lord, yeah!
--Black Sabbath, War Pigs
