I know this is not a new movie, but still a question has lingered in my mind. It is catalogued as a letdown some say it lacked action. But I disagree, I think the movie itself it's pretty good, the director's style for the movie, it's pretty clean and elegant, it has good action, the plane sequence it's great, and so the part where Superman flies out the waterplane goes up to take force from the sun and sinks into the water to lift the kriptonite island.

But I certainly wasn't what I expected, but the reasons are different, I think the story was a bit weird. There were a few elements that in my opinion don't belong in a superman movie, for example, Louis being with another guy, and Superman's son, although the part where he gaves the kid, the same speech Jor'el gave him moved me, I think that wasn't fit for a movie that's trying to reintroduce aundiences to the Superman myth.

Another thing was that there wasn't enough kripton stuff, I mean, we all know Superman defending the earth but have few info on his bloodline which it's so cool

And Lex luthor should've been a more serious character I think that kind of lex, the funny one, isn't realistic anymore, I think they should have gone more in the smallville's lex direction...

Those are the elements I think failed. What do you think?

The director (Bryan Singer) was worried that Superman was too squeaky clean for todays audience and tried to introduce some changes. He was also worried because it is no fun having a main character who is nearly invincible. It is hard to find situations to build tension, so he is trying to bring out his human emotions.

I think the introduction of the kid could turn out to be a huge mistake though. It is just such a slippery slope. I don't want to go to a Superman Movie in the future and see half of the screen time chewed up by some little kid. It kind of smacks of some popular TV show adding a new kid (Cosby Show, Growing Pains, etc...) for more ratings.

I did think the movie kind of dragged at points, but that is to be expected from a first attempt. Too much story to introduce (or re-introduce). I do have high hopes for the second effort though.

It lacked the charm of the previous Superman movies. But there is always a chance for redemption with the next Superman movie. Funny thing is, whether or not I liked the last Superman, I'm going to go to the next one. I guess I have strong childhood ties to this character.

Even though Routh looked quite a bit like Chris Reeve, he and Lois were way to young to have been at the point in their lives where the movie said they were. Unless they met at the Planet when they were both 16 or something. That wasn't beleivable to me.

And the new land that Lex was making. Who the heck would wanna live in that crappy place?

Superman Returns was nothing more than an update to Superman: The Movie. I couldn't believe that they even used some of the same lines, i.e. "Flying is the safest way to travel."

I thought it was a nice tribute to the originals. Agreed, Chris Reeve is and always will be Sup. BUT this new fellow looks like and sounds like him more than i anticipated.

i kinda liked that they used the same lines, it was like homage to the king. and only that fanfare could be the music, thank you John W. awesome as always. I also loved Kevin Spacey as Lex. It was almost like watching Gene Hackman again. Although i thought Parker Posey left something to be desired.

It wasn't what I was hoping for... but at least it never went with the other script (the one with superman unable to fly, the giant robot spider, and brianiac fighting polar bears with his gay sidekick robot)
