The general definition of a "scientist" is one who has studied science and/or applies science in research and/or development.
As such, it may be argued that the creation of ANY invention required some research, if not actual development (not a requirement for obtaining a U.S. patent), so, "yes", you may consider yourself a scientist (if your invention involves rockets, then you may consider yourself a "rocket scientist"!). ;)
However, since you had to ask the question, I don't think it wise for you to brag about it or put it on your business cards! ;)
