Actually it goes by weight/height: 4T runs about 34-38 lbs and 35" to 37" tall (off the top of my head) well that is Carters.
Both boys wore them at two years old...age has NOTHING to do with meds and clothes!
Edit: Both have standards based by size of child first (even hospitals go by weight before age in a dosage) and both my children were in the 98% of size for the first few years. Everyone is different!

I'm just a little curious why you would decide to buy clothes marked 4T for a child that is not even a year old?
Clothing at this age will be marked by the month, and often, the weight/height too. 4T won't fit until 3-5 years, although in my experience, Gymboree clothing tends to run a tad on the large size. It isn't true of all of their pieces, but the shorts that I have bought and the pants that were 4T, were way too big for my 4 yr old.
At the age your baby is right now, depending on weight and length, stay with 6-12 mo, 12-18 mo. You'll find a much better fit for baby that way!

number one- always keep all price tags on the items you buy to make returns more "friendly"
two- T is a toddler size and there should be little sizes charts on the rack saying what height and weight it will fit. 4T is
generally for a 3 year old.
Three - try the things on your child- making sure that a clean diaper is on and no food is involved. So that when you return it, the store will graciously refund your money or exchange.
Many stores now have rigid rules for returns now- a large amount of money is lost by department store with liberal return policies and you and I end up paying in the end.
Good luck

The sizes that have t, such as 4t, are made to fit over diapers, the bottoms of infant/toddler clother, to make room for the diapers/pullups, this comes from someone who sold clothes for years lol so if they are not in diapers, get the 4, not the 4t ;)

Up until around age 5, give or take a few months. It depends on the child. My 20 month old is in 2T because she's so tall. My 5 year old niece can still fit into her 4Ts because she is so petite.

4T will fit an average-sized 3-4 year old child. At that age, sizes typically (but certainly not in every child) fit a child of that age.

Typically it would fit a 4 year old. But you really have to go by their height and weight. Not all 4 year olds are average size. Most children's clothing will have the sizes and what height and weight they fit on the tag that has the price on it.

With my babies, 4T fit at around age 3. It was wierd, because to look for sizes of clothes all I had to do was look for a year ahead of them or when they were really little like 3 mos ahead of them. It's like they think everyone has teeny tiny babies! haha (although, mine may have been big anyway cause they were both 9 lbs when born!) :)

My son is a large 2 year old (he towers above other 2 years old) and he is just now able to wear some 3T. They may look like they fit but once you get them on her they will probably be too long or too wide in the waist. My son wore 24 months when he was your daughters age.
