I do. It's been four years now, we've gone out separate ways. Every couple of months, he will call . Usually on a Friday night when he's out drinking. He gets sentimental or something. He's not calling for a booty call, (it would never happen), he just needs to check in for some reason. He called just last week, in fact, and I didn't even bother picking the phone up.

You say you have an itch and you are not scratching. That could be a majority of your problem. I have been married a few times and I have left on my decision 5 times. I have tried many different angles but I promise this finally worked everytime. I learned that you have to sit the person down and look them in the eyes and tell them straight out. Don't leave any doors open. Tell the person you would like to stay friends but for now you want to completely separate so you can readjust to life. If his in and out of your life doesn't stop that there will be no more "In's", not even as a friend. Sometimes you can be nice when relaying this info, your feelings, or most of the time you have to stand stern. Do not answer calls, e-mails, texts, doorbells. If you see him, ignore him and if he or she keeps persisting tell him or her to call you in a little bit where he can get the message along with everyone else. I have actually put on my phone recorder after I leave my message saying; If this is my (ex. Jack or Sharon), Please to not try to contact me anymore. We are done. If you finally get the message, text me and I will change my answer message, on my telephone. Works every time! Nobody want every one to know they are being turned down, I don't care who they are. Well, I do have someone who has occasionally come back into my life - though to be fair she and I weren't together - it was an unrequited love (on my part) and she doesn't return necessarily to see me but to see those whom she once spent time with (I was among them of course).

She went overseas to work - we were supposed to keep in touch by email - she failed to do so.
Eventually she got married and now lives overseas permanently.

Although I don't begrudge her the right to come and visit, she's shown herself to be lacking in sensitivity and to be somewhat presumptuous.

It's especially hard given that I loved her whereas at the most she only considered me a friend.

Is your ex being presumptuous or is it essentially "chance" that he ends up coming around into your life? If he's being pushy then of course you have the right to tell him to respect your privacy and to not presume to impose upon you.

If he's bothering you, let him know that whether directly or through a third party and then don't let him interfere in your life.

I wish you all the best.

You may be unconsciously giving him signals that it is okay for him to do so. If you really want no contact ( depends on what you mean by in your life) then tell him so in no uncertain terms, perhaps even in writing.

However, what is wrong with being adults (age appropriate) and be civil and accept that while the two of you are no longer together you were at one time a part of each others lives. We are formed by who we have touched in our path through life, for both good and bad.

Do not over-react. Probably, he simply desires any one to talk to and he relies on you. It is kinda candy if you ask me. You two are excellent neighbors and that is what buddies are for. Don't feel of him as your ex, however as a pal - anybody he can lean on. Try to maintain up the supportive look on their relationship and you are going to be happier whilst you've helped. Hope this helps, Emily P.S. Excellent luck :)

In order to make an itch go away, you need to scratch it

I have one that pops in every weekend and quite a few times a week. The only thing I'd scratch concerning her is her eyes. :D

Yep...an old girlfriend from 1985. We both have been married, now divorced and from time to time we hook up, Theres a distance thing though, so that keeps it from going too far...

i've had that problem. this guy and i've been broken up for over 10 years now. about 8 years ago he saw a family member, they gave him my number. about 5 years ago he saw a friend of mine and she gave him my new number, then just 3 weeks ago he saw my cousin and she gave him my new number, knowing i didn't want him having it. finally, i just told him, stop asking for my number. it's been over 10 years and i'm so over him and don't wish to revisit the past. after i told him that, he still called me twice but i never picked up and he hasn't called since.
