If it bothers you, don't do it. Otherwise, shut up and buckle down. The Bible is no different from any other work of fiction that you might read. It's a pretty interesting story, the Old Testament is. There's tons of violence as the God character destroys everything from people to civilizations in all kinds of terrible ways.

Actually, a book is a book and the bible is just a book.
This would be a very good lesson for you.
Trust me on that.
You will be well armed for any debate, on "either side" of the subject. Use it, and reference history books and other theological "religion" books and see that many things do "jive" and connect us to the historical truth of an issue.
Yet the personal "religious" belief is a totally disconnected thing. If its a morality lesson or spiritual lesson, that is not okay for this forum. I agree.
I love literature. I don't like the idea of Biblical references "explained" in a school, its should be YOU and other individuals to interpret it for themselves, discuss the options and personally determine YOU percieved outcome. Much like any other work of literature or historical-scientic event. That is a choice of "free will" and thought.
In a private one it can be part of the curriculum, taught as the school sees fit and parents agree to that format and choose that option.
I would reference other cultures versions of "genesis" and resource them. That will make YOUR point in a very educated way about a very "touchy" subject.

If the teacher is trying to implant those beliefs on you, I think you have an issue. However, if you are just studying the information provided, why would reading the bible be any different than any other book you are assigned?

Sure, as long as it isn't a religious exercise. The Bible is still a book, and analysis and comprehension of the language in the Bible is just an exercise.

Only in a City Public school are you in a private school? Plus any school that has mythology classes that focus on bible, greek, norse myth then its all good, as long as they don't try and teach any of them as factual.
I believe schools need to teach compassion/morals of some sort maybe its good you are reading it.

Depends on a lot more information than you shared. Are you taking a Bible as literature class? - Then yes.

Depends on if you are talking about the Phil Collins Genesis or the Bible.
Regardless, your post doesn't make sense. Care to elaborate?

Religion has has a large impact on historical and present condition of the world.
It is only illegal for a government funded school to teach religion. Not for them to use a Holy book as a reference.
