And how many non-binding resolutions were voted on ?

Me remembers -- LOTS !!

So let me ask you something ...... A relatively simple resolution was proposed yesterday by the Republicans . They simply asked for an up or down vote , Yes or No , for a resolution condemning that Moveon.org ad that said 'Petraeus or Betrayus'. .. .. . .despicably because Petraeus hadn't even spoken 1 word yet . Not a word . Result ? -- Dems Blocked Even A Vote!
It's quite important to know where our leaders and candidates stand on the issues . So why would the democrats prevent us from knowing where they stood ?
Why would the 'free speech' democratic party block a vote on something as simple as that ?

At first I thought that the dem candidates refusal to personally condemn Moveon was deplorable , and it is . But now they actually BLOCK a vote on a resolution condemning it ? What ?

I believe this will separate the honest folks from the dishonest folks . This is an American Issue not a partisan issue!

gradjeur or whatever - Ummm , you either twisted this or misread it . I never said anything about wanting them to silence anything . I said the wanted to vote to condemn the ad . Thereby identifying where they stand on the issue . I agree that it shouldn't be an issue , but who did that ? The democrats unwillingness to break their ties with a hate group . You watch . This issue will get bigger before it goes away .

Actually, all these non-binding resolutions are petty and childish.

DAMMIT, we elected these people to govern. Non-binding resolutions are nothing but an excuse saying we support this, but won't actually do a damn thing to make it happen.

It's a shame that JFK isn't still around. Maybe he could write a new book called Profiles in Cowardice in his old age. Lord knows he'd have plenty of material.

Forgive me, for it appears I don't understand. But did you just attack the Democrats for blocking free speech, at the precise moment when they made sure that a government institution ((Congress) didn't vote on attempting to silence members of the American public who were voicing their dislike of the war (nonviolently so I might add)?

I understand that MoveOn.org doesn't speak for you, but it does speak for many Americans. Rather than attacking them, why not show your support of the war in similar fashion. As long as you do not become violent either, you absolutely have the right to support the war with signs or speeches, or any other way you can think of as long as no violence is involved.

That is the major problem with America today. Everyone is more than willing to fight for their own rights and make sure they have their right to free speech, but are too ready to try to take it from those who disagree with them. I don't have a problem with what happened, both the Republicans and the Democrats followed the rules and the Democrats just happened to win this time. The Republicans will win their victories in the future, and so will the Democrats. As long as they follow the constitution things will work out fine.

And I agree that these issues will separate the honest from the dishonest (which isn't too hard in Washington because everyone is dishonest--small joke). Just make sure that you are on the right side of that divide when it happens.

I don't recall.

Why would they want to vote to condemn free speech in America.

Should they vote to condemn Rush, Sean, Bill, and Mike Wiener for every time they called elected Congressmen/Women traitors?

The word traitor does not even appear in the Moveon ad.

Time to move on and stop all the whining. The General is a big boy, I'm sure his feelings are OK.

Give me a break! I would think Congress would have better things to vote on than an ad in the paper. Another example of how our tax dollars are being wasted. Not to mention the waste of time.

Moveon.org has free speech just like everyone else. You're just pissed off because they are support Democrats.

I didn't see Republicans being outraged when the swift boat veterans for truth were publishing their shite about John Kerry. Nope don't remember any Republicans asking for an up or down vote about that, do you????

"It's quite important to know where our leaders and candidates stand on the issues ."

I agree. But wasting time on voting on if a newspaper ad was out of line? I don't agree with that.

And I was shocked by the Betray Us comment, before he had spoken, as well.

I've never seen you screaming about Bush & co's "executive privilege" though. Or the Swiftboat Veterans for *ahem* "Truth".

Yes, we should know where our leaders stand. Be they Democrat OR Republican.

Did you condemn the Swift Boat Veterans?

Or rally around the notion that Kerry is a wimp and that AWOL,cokehead, boozehound Bush was the 'real man'.

That attempt by Republicans was nothing but a publicity stunt and has no affect on our country and it's well-being...it was an attempt to hold a vote on an ad in a newspaper...you talk about wasting time in govt...that would be nothing but a complete waste of time, as were the non-binding resolutions.

Yes, it does take a lot of courage to vote on a non binding resolution, doesn't it?
