My boyfriend is a tow truck driver, last night he was driving home from a call on a busy freeway. He witness a 3 car pile up. Two of them were ok and but one lady was messed up. He ran into the freeway and pushed the two cars out of the way. The 3rd lady was unable to be moved, so he set up flares around her. He put the tow truck in front of her so they'd hit the truck and not her. He called 9-1-1 and the whole nine yards. The 3rd lady was so injured she was going in out of consiousness so he did everything he could to keep her awake till they got her out with the jaws out life. The thing that upset me is no one thanked him, besides the ladies of course. The police just told him to go as if he did nothing. He didn't get thanked for protecting the lady from not getting hit again and keeping her calm. I dunno, Im upset about it. He didn't care but I do. Shouldn't he of at least been thanked or something?

I drove a tow truck for 15yrs. He should have been thanked, but he was just doing what came instinctively to someone in that line of work. He knows it was appreciated by everyone involved and that's why it doesn't bother him. But I believe he should have been thanked. Tell him to keep up the good work.

You're expecting courtesy...??

Listen, if he's done this job before... HE should know that at least ONE of these goofball drivers CAUSED the high-speed accident, and isn't necessarily a nice person, to say the least. (You drive, as you are.) You can't expect them to be courteous in speech - if they just were driving like a maniac, safety be damned, right? The others -- are stunned, angry, slowed in thought, injured etc. and have so many things on their minds, other than courtesy.

If you think he's a hero, then you take care of him, in your own special way -- but, don't ever believe nonsense from a man, that they're not "appreciated" for their valor/deeds. A man that says such things -- not only isn't up to the deeds he's talking about, but is saying so, for a reason. He wants YOU to think he's a hero for menial tasks (that also might have been taken care of, in reality by the highway patrol and not him, but let's not open a can)... so, play along.

Absolutely! He is a hero! But I guess its the way police and other "officials" are. If it isn't your job, then you shouldn't try to help. But I strongly think that more people should help others and be good samaritans like your boyfriend. It would make others realize that they don't always have to rely on the police to make things right, especially since most of the time they don't get to the scene right away and wait an hour and sometimes its too late.

Yeah, I think he should have been thanked, but sometimes when there is a life-or-death situation like that, the people involved are all so preoccupied with keeping the person alive that they forget their manners. Besides, I have it on pretty good authority that cops tend to get a little pi$$ed if a civilian looks like more of a hero than they do in situations like this. They probably wanted to act like your BF wasn't the real reason she was still alive, even though he was.

Your boyfriend acted selflessly and did what he thought was the proper and right thing to do.
It seems reasonable to me that the Police, Fire and EMTs might have a lot on thier minds, after using the "JAWS of LIFE" to extricate a critically injured woman for a severely damaged car involved in a late night,"3 car pile-up"in a hazardous area of a busy highway.
Since you state that it did NOT bother him, but it bothers you. THAT, to me, seems rather Selfish of you.

One would think, but the ladies involved in the accident thanked him and besides, more importantly then him having been thanked verbally, he will be blessed with good karma because of his unselfish acts of kindness and that you can not put a price tag on!

Yes, the police should have thanked him but I am sure they were BUSY! Also, the ladies he helped thanked him and I would imagine he helped because it was the right thing to do, not for recognition!?!? Be proud of your man and get over it

Well, in a crisis like that I don't think good manners and etiquette are the first call of business. The police and first responders were otherwise occupied. He shouldn't worry about thanks; he knows he did the right thing.

Call up your local newspaper and ask if they'd like to do a story on him...or write into your papers opinion page.

I think more than a thank you should be in order here. But, it didn't happen. Don't feel too bad about it the non-acknowlegement. Think how heroic your boyfriend is.
