They couldn't invent such things as television - they had no concept of the ability to use the power of electricity for such things, and certainly didn't know about electrons and such like. Furthermore, there was not the technology to make such things as valves, necessary for primitive televisions or indeed lenses for cameras, another necessity. Whatever makes you think they 'could invent' such things?
