I had my gall bladder removed three weeks after my three year old was born via emergency c-section. I had a miscarriage a year and a half ago and now I am pregnant again. I am wondering if the gas pains and other sharp pains are normal in a pregnancy after having my gall bladder removed. I didn't have these pains before the miscarriage. I also wonder if part of it is because of the c-section and the scar tissue from that.

Any ideas??

It could be from the gall bladder removal, but a lot of pregnant women get painful gas. Pregnancy also messes with your digestive system though and not having your gall bladder could make those symptoms more obvious. Ask your doctor, it never hurts to.

I had my gall bladder removed after my first pregnancy. I never had any problems. I got pregnent again and had a c-section. I never had any unusual sharp pains after the gall bladder was removed. I DID have sharp pains with my second pregnancy, on the side and it was a pregnancy cyst. I guess it's normal. So, maybe it's that. They do an ultrasound (internal, sorry) and then just give you pain killers (safe to take while pregnant) and tell you it will go away and it does.

Your diet may have some effect.

When the gall bladder is removed, that is only a storage place for bile. There is a valve still remaining at the base of the tube from the liver to the intestines which still control bile release. The pancreas also release digestive juices into that tube/valve location.

I never had a problem but for some, excessive fats seem to give a problem with this.

I'm not pregnant. LOL So can't help you there.

I did not have to have my gall bladder removed.... but i have had problems with it. Both my OB and my GI doc said that if they had to they could remove it in either the 2nd or 3rd trimester. My gb use to hurt a lot, but it is just inflamed, there are no stones. I can keep it under control by watching what I eat. So hopefully my surgery will be able to be put off until after I'm done nursing. What ever is diagnosed, just make sure that all doctors are co-ordinating with your OB. They will be able to give you the best advice.

Non discript pains can be normal.

It would be normal to focus more on minor pain after the history you experienced.

Yes, adhessions are possible, particularly if the gall bladder procedure was the larger older procedure.

My impression is you are naturally concerned with your pregnancy because of the past. A good approach is to put it in prospective in light of that. You may tell your OB/GYN of your pains and concerns for reassurance.

Rest easy, you will make it fine.

My step mom had her gall bladder removed while she was pregnant. And about a year later she got pregnant again. I never heard her complain about gas pains or anything. I would discuss it with your doctor. Good luck

You should contact your dr., I think that gas is associated with the gall bladder removal

I don't think that it has anything to do with your gallbladder surgery. I had mine removed when I was 6 years old and have not had any of those symptoms with my pregnancy. I'd sugest contacting your OB and express your concerns to them. They are the ones that would know best. Good luck!!

Probably unrelated.
If you haven't had a scan yet you should go to the hospital as soon as in case you have an ectopic pregnancy. if your scan was fine the cause of pain depends on how far you are. It may be ligament pain.
