I actually made the mistake of drinking the water too far in advance and I had to pee before i went in fo rmy ultrasound.. so yea my bladder was not very full but she was able to find the baby just fine. I will tell you tho she had to push in a little bit to get closer to my baby and view his sex and all but she had no problems getting the info she needed and when she did a sample 3D he was perfectly clear :) I would just make sure to drink enough water just to keep you hydrated :) Good luck!

For my first ultrasound, I did drink the full 32 oz. of water that they asked me to. However, I then had to wait almost an hour past my appointment time and I was ready to burst! So, the ultrasound technician said I could "let some out". The bladder needs to be full enough to get a good picture of the baby, but I really don't believe a full 32 oz is necessary. I would be sure to drink fluids continually throughout the day (as you should be doing anyway while pregnant) and perhaps an extra glass before your appointment, and don't go to the bathroom for a couple of hours before the appointment.

the regular ultrasounds are 'moderately secure' which means they do not pose a 'giant' hazard to the youngster. The advantages nearly outweigh the dangers. Nevertheless, you do not have ultrasounds until wanted as they most likely don't seem to be with out hazard. Remember years in the past additionally they notion x rays had been secure.. this present day a minimum of so much medical professionals do let you know approximately the dangers of ultrasound. At least mine did. Four remains to be inside secure limits. But keep away from the ones new 3D ultrasounds.. they use a mega dose of ultrasound and they're NOT secure. There has been so much controversy and plenty of areas are refusing to do them, most effective the extra benefit oriented areas. Go forward and feature this ultrasound... 4 is fine.

Having a full bladder makes the ultrasound pics come out better, I had mine 1st thing in the morning and it was very hard to drink all that liquid but I did and was glad I did because I found out I was having a little boy =) Good luck!

I was never even told to drink before I got mine done. I know you have to have a full bladder but there were times I went in and I did not have to pee and all and then some I had to pee really bad and everytime turned out fine. I found out the sex the first time they did mine. I was a little further along though. Just make sure you drink a little or don't go to the bathroom before you go. Good Luck and congrats.

the reason they tell you to drink so much water is so that your bladder will be VERY full and you will be able to see your baby so much better! the bladder pushes the uterus forward when it is full(when the uterus is still in the lower pelvic cavity). I had my first ultrasound done at 12 weeks and since I had such a full bladder they could see the baby so well! they could even tell that he is a boy! So i would reccomend drinking the water, the ultrasound will be clearer and you can see everything better! good luck and god bless

If the technician says to drink it, then drink it. You need to complete drinking it one hour prior to your apt. I don't know why they want you to have a full bladder, but they do. Mine was so full she told me to go to the bathroom the second she put the wand on my stomach. The technicians are pretty good about their appointments running on time, as they know that everyone has a full bladder. I don't know what the risks are for not drinking that much water. Just drink as much as you can and know that you are going to be a little bit uncomfortable for a bit when your bladder is full. Good luck, its amazing to look at, the baby not the bladder :)

Ahh... This is one item I don't get about going to the dr's. My dr office asks that you give a urine sample when you first get there. BUT then they want you to have a full blader for the ultra sound. Doesn't make sense to me...

I did have an ultra sound at 8 weeks and then again at 12 weeks with empty bladders both times and we were able to see the baby just fine.

You should drink the water because it will fill your bladder and you will be able to see the baby easier. I am 10 weeks, and at 7 weeks, they did a sonogram and I got in trouble because I didnt drink the water and they had to push really hard on my stomach and it hurt....so drink the water. Good luck

The technician needs to be able to see the bladder and distinguish it between the rest of the body parts in there........that is why they need it full.
A very good and experienced tech doesn't need it to be full - but most require it.
If you want the best diagnosis then do what your Dr says. They usually let you get up after they finish the bladder section and go to the bathroom and then finish the ultrasound
