Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri have repeatedly been asking Americans to embrace Islam so as to avoid further fighting.
According to the Qu'ran, we are all born Muslims but stray if we become "people of the book" (Jewish or Christian), kufr (infidels) or pagans. As a group of people who are opposed to the teachings of Islam, we are viewed as a threat to the ummah (the Muslim community). If this threat is associated with hostile action, it is than the duty of every individual Muslim to wage jihad (in this case a defensive jihad) in order to protect the ummah. Before the enemies of Islam can be attacked, however, Qu'ranic tradition (via the Qu'ran, the hadiths, the sunnah) states that they must be given the opportunity to convert (some say this warning must be given three times). Upon refusal to convert, the Muslims than receive a 'blank check' to unleash jihad.
Your question is actually a very good one. Will Osama bin Laden spare us if we convert. As a man who abides by his faith, I believe he would spare us if our government submits to Allah. However, he knows this will not happen and he is offering conversion just to clear his conscious.
As to how he would know if we converted, that is easy. We would have to abide by Islamic law (the shari'a) which is antithetical to Western liberalism and we would have to uphold the five pillars of Islam; 1.) the profession of faith, 2.) daily prayers, 3.) tithing, 4.) fasting (during Ramadan), and 5.) making a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in our life. I am sure we would also be expected to participate in jihad against the other enemies of Islam.

Thats super information. regardless of the undeniable fact which you get carry of those figures incorrect. ninety 9.ninety 9% of Muslims is a sturdy objective, yet no longer real. the comparable Muslims by ability of the tens of hundreds of thousands around the midsection East and Indonesia and someplace else partied, celebrating the deaths of those on 9-11.., and love Osama Bin Ladin coronary heart and soul.

You act as though the man has his finger on a huge trigger to destroy us all. The answer to your question, however, is no. What he cares about is the safety of his own people, their ability to live independently of the U.S., and to live normal, decent lives. When these are satisfied, even if he himself is not actually going to stop, he'll lose a lot of his following when they realize they're fighting for nothing.
