I try and give equal balance to both options, because there are times with both of them are needed. Wisdom is the ability to choose the right philosophy at the right time.

I am a realist. A realist is like a median between the two extremes that you listed. A realist knows that you have to set goals and work hard for what you want. A realist also realizes that not all circumstances are under your control and that when things do go better or worse than expected all that you can do is to change your plans in the future to help accommodate for the unexpected.

I'm manic-depressive optimist.
I tend to be happy and in good mood most of the time (usually a bit too much), but when something goes wrong...

...I feel like just lying on the ground and wait for death to come.

I'm optimist because when thing go wrong I look at it as there's something I need to change in my life, that will improve my life.

I am a realist, I may not always like the reality in which I live but I do my very best to see things as they truly are not as I would like them to be or as a worst case scenario. It is your duty as a rational individual to do your best to see the world as it truly is without any bias.

The truth is optimists don't get all that down when things go wrong, at least not for long. They're more likely to look forward to things getting better.

And pessimists don't get all that happy when things go their way, at least not for long. They're more likely to anticipate things falling apart.

Realist, take the good and the bad and DEAL with it.

Why does everyone need a name to define them these days?

Why not just accept the way you are as "the way you are" instead of trying to conform to "labels" that society throws your way.

Unwillingly an Optimist, but Pesisims is a much happier life, pesisms not depression ! If you don't expect nothing and get nothing you have nothing to loose, but if you get something then great. If you expect something and get it, you haven't gained anything mentally etc, if you don't get it you'll be upset.

I am neither. I put all my trust in the Lord. I try to remain neutral on what to expect with life knowing God is ultimately in control of everything.

Better to expect good things and have to build experience when it occasionally does not go your way. VS. Always looking for the dark cloud and celebrating the occasional rainbow. I'll take optimism.
