I don't have a comment about the idiot part. However, I think a lot of people are fearful of our soliders being treated the same way our Vietnam soldiers were treated when they came home. No one wants a re-run of that.
I think some people are just uniformed and regurgitate what they hear on talk radio or on programs like Hannity & Colmes. They buy into this "logic" without looking at the whole picture. They hear the 30 second sound bites that are piece-mealed together, and miss out on the other events that occurred the rest of the day. The same can be true for the opposite end of the spectrum.
I think some people just want to get a rise out of others. Some of my very own questions attempt to do that.
I also think a lot of people have a hard time seeing the fine line between being against the war before it becomes being against the troops. There is a distinct difference, but I don't think everyone sees that.

That's typical for far right regressive ideology.
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

People who say that are ignorant and angry and looking for a reason to vent. After all, at least half the people who died on 9/11 were liberals. Do you think those who call dissenters unpatriotic really care about the deaths of 1500+ liberals? No, they don't. All they care about are themselves.

They're called unpatriotic because there are a lot of ignorant people out there. A true patriot questions the government, they don't just follow blindly. Following political leaders blindly leads to dictatorship.

We are not... there is a "surge" of fake answerers on yahoo who do nothing exept post this kind of rhetoric to every question...
I think Yahoo should come up with a way to limit the number of answers in the same category.
I occasionally switch out of politics and go to psychology or celebrities or books and authors... I don't like being percieved as the "democrat" version of the same thing...
Mix it up people! Share some real, original ideas once in awhile... not just the same tired political agenda!

Because this is a tactic... instead of viewing the opponents' arguments this is a attempt to dismiss them entirely and stop any dialogue or debate.
Using words like "patriot" or "unpatriotic" or "coward" or "traitor" (or "warmonger" or "chicken hawk") puts people into a emotional state... so no rational or logical discussion will come out of the argument.

It has to do with the same tactics used by their idol and mentor from days gone by:
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. To speak against the government during wartime , to condemn the armed forces , to call for bringing the soldiers home, to parade or march against the war effort, all encourage the enemy to fight on and fight harder. As a result more soldiers are killed . That's unpatriotic .

Because all the Republicans think if you don't support the war then you don't support America. This isn't the case, obviously. I don't support the war, and I support our country. I support our troops as well. But, I will NOT get behind a war over nothing. I will NOT get behind Bush getting revenge for Daddy. This whole war started because Bush is convinced that terrorism=Iraq. Clearly, that wasn't the case. But the government doesn't see it that way.

1) not a war...let's have some respect for the language.
This is a military occupation of foreign soil AFTER we won the war.
War is a conflict between military forces involving delineated areas of control.......not a resistance movement with civilian guerrillas with no set area of control for the resistance movement. (examples are war= WW!,WW2,Korea...NOT War=Vichy govt in France b4 WW2, British conflict with IRA in N.Ireland over the years)
2) Only reason it is being called a war is because if you don't support your country's war then you are seen as unpatriotic due to appearence that you don't respect+support country.
