They say the mind has no real memory of physical pain, i.e. one cannot remember the actual feeling ... but emotional pain is quite different. I can remember the stunned feeling, like being stabbed in the heart, which I experienced on several occasions ... but looking back, it mostly wasn't genuine heartbreak, more wounded pride, anger (especially directed at self) and resentment of time wasted. I tend to remember those times of hurt and/or humiliation ... but that's all it is, in effect, memory of hurt rather than hurt itself.

My heart is still breaking, but smaller pieces are falling away instead, of large pieces. So a slight improvement.
