"We support our troops, just not what theyre doing".

Why would they burn an effigy of a soldier in Portland, OR on March 17, 2007? (Not to mention flags.)

I work in Portland, and actually know a couple of these demonstrators who go to a dojo where I occasionally train. They are mostly drawn from the numerous colleges in the city, combined with a large number of "alternative lifestyle" groups. This is an extremely liberal city in the downtown region, where the primary industries are service-related. Not so liberal around the outskirts, where the production industries are.

These people are deluded. I have actually had discussions with them where that they categorically stated that there was a finite amount of wealth, and if I have more, someone else has less. They do not understand productivity or how wealth is created. We were in a bar, and when I asked them how the glass blower who heated sand to melt and make the glass they were drinking from took the wealth from someone else when he did so, there was nothing but silent consternation around the table.

These people do not know soldiers, and are completely ignorant of what it means to be in the military. As a veteran who has seen the world, I am as alien to them as if I just stepped off a spaceship. These piles of worm dung who are still wet behind the ears and aspire to be kindergarten teachers actually look down on me as some sort of neolithic throwback, because I served in order to guarantee their freedom.

These people react without thinking. They are only vaguely aware of a world beyond their horizons, and have little or no concept of history. They want what they want, and do not stop to consider the consequences.

For example, when interrogated, they simply cannot connect the deaths in the killing fields of Cambodia as an indirect result of our departure from southeast Asia. To them these two events are unconnected, and they are therefore innocent.

The same sorts of people will spike trees in the surrounding forests to do injury to loggers should their saws hit the spikes, and will dart out in front of you on their bikes and nearly get run over and then give you the finger when you blow your horn to remind them that when a car and a bike interact, one gets scratched paint and the other becomes a bloody smear.

Liberals burn flags when they don't get their way. What would be the purpose of supporting the troops if you're not supporting what they are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan? That statement makes no sense, but then what Lib does make sense?

You are using too broad a brush to label all liberals as the "war hating, spit on a soldier coming home" kind of person. You can't do that anymore than a liberal can look at every soldier in uniform as a "baby killer". That kind of logic doesn't fly in the real world.

I think these people have several good reasons to oppose our military presence in Iraq, but they're kind of making the anti-war side look dramatic and irrational. Just because I think the war was a bad idea doesn't mean I'm horny for the tactics of Cindy Sheehan, if you know what I mean. We need more thoughtful and articulate expression of our political ideologies in this country. Shock tactics just tend to turn people off. ]

I'm a liberal, and I don't claim such things, nor do I participate in such things. Another sweeping generalization here.

This link is not to any kind of newspaper or magazine (conservative or otherwise) but a blog that links to another blog (!!!) In other words, they are in no way accountable for telling the truth and there is no way to check that it is the truth.
I believe they are lieing!!!! I don't believe for a second that anti-war protestors burned a soldier in effigy anywhere!
