I would call 1800medicare, but it takes so da*mned long to get a living human being on the phone.

She can use Part A right now. Part B requires payment of a monthly premium. If she receives a Social Security check, that premium is deducted each month. If she doesn't get a Social Security check, then the premium can be paid every three months and she receives a billing for that amount from Social Security.

If it is on the card she has part B and they are taking the premium out of her S.S. check. Part A covers hospital and part B covers Dr. visits. They do not put part B on the card unless one actually has that coverage. I know this because I was using VA and did not need medicare. Now I am living in the country and had to get part B to see a Dr.

Your mother "has" both Part A & Part B. I'm on SS Disabilty because of a botched foot surgery seven years ago. My Medicare card says I have A& B. When I reach retirement age, I'll still have both parts & the checks will be known as Social Security.

It mean that the Hospital insurance (Part A) helps pay for inpatient care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (following a hospital stay), some home health care and hospice care. Medical insurance (Part B) that helps pay for doctors’ services and many other medical services and supplies that are not covered by hospital insurance. I hope that helps.
